36 Yachts Confirm Participation For RLIR 2015

ALOR SETAR, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- A total of 36 local and foreign yachts have confirmed their participation in this year's Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) to be held in Langkawi from Jan 12 to 17.

Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) general manager Wicky Sundram said 10 of the participants are from Malaysia, Great Britain (7), Australia (6), Thailand (3), two each from Singapore and New Zealand.

Austria, Denmark, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Russia will send one participant for this year's edition.

"It's an honour to see 36 entries this year, which includes a global representation of nations but more entries are expected to join this year's RLIR as registration closes only on Jan 12," he said in a statement.

He said defending champion, Team Oi!, skipper by Peter Ahern, has confirmed his team's participation as well as Singapore's Team SMU (Singapore Management University) which won Langkawi's Sports Boat Challenge Trophy in 2013.

The six-day RLIR 2015 will see participants vying for honours in five categories - Racing Class, IRC Class, Sports Class, Multihull Class and Club Class.
