Three Golf Clubs Bidding To Host Malaysian Open Golf In 2016

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- Three leading golf clubs in the country are said to be bidding to host the prestigious Malaysian Open Golf Championship.

"MGA (Malaysian Golf Association) is planning to shift the event to another venue for the 2016 competition. There are three golf clubs bidding to be the next venue.

"In the past five years, the event was held at the KLGCC. Initial years, it was always held at the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSG) where it is known as the home of the Malaysian Open," said MGA president Admiral (R) Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, when asked whether MGA were planning to seek a new 'home' for the Malaysian Open.

The Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) would be the venue for the event for six consecutive years (2010 to 2015).

The three golf clubs vying to host the prestigious competition are Kota Permai Golf and Country Club (KPGCC), Saujana Golf and Country Club (SGCC) and RSG, since they have hosted the event before.

SGCC hosted the event six times - 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009, while KPGCC hosted the event in 2008 and The Royal Selangor Club last hosted the event in 2002.

The event was also held at The Royal Perak Golf Club, Templer Park Country Club and The Mines Golf Resort.

Mohd Anwar noted that the MGA as the golf governing body in Malaysia, has 185 golf clubs as its affiliates.

He earlier attended the announcement of two top players from the recent Ryder Cup 2014 winning side, Graeme McDowell and Paul McGinley, who have confirmed their participation for next year's event.
