Four Seasons Resort, The Frangipani Resort Win Langkawi Tourism Awards

LANGKAWI, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The Four Seasons Resort Langkawi and The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa each clinched two awards at the Langkawi Tourism Awards (LITA) on Friday night.

Four Seasons Resort Langkawi won the Best 5 Star and Best Geopark Experience categories while The Frangipani emerged as winner for the Best 3 Star and Best Geopark Practices categories.

A total of 17 categories were contested at the event held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) here.

The awards were presented to the winners by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and Kedah Religious, Indian and Siamese Community Affairs, Human Resource and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid, who represented Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir.

The awards for accommodation consisted of Best 5 Star, Best 4 Star (won by Casa Del Mar Langkawi) and Best 3 Star. The restaurant category awards comprise Best Restaurant (Fish Farm Langkawi) and Best F&B Outlet (The Gulai House, The Datai).

The Geoparks category awarded winners for Best Geopark Community (KPSP Kilim), Best Geopark Experience and Best Geopark Practises, while awards for the product category were Best Hotel Based Spa (V Integrated Wellness & Botanical Spa, The Andaman), Best Tourism Attraction (Langkawi Skycab), Best Homestay (Aisyah Ismail) and Best Duty Free Business (Skymall Duty Free Langkawi International Airport).

Awards in the service category were Best Tourist Guide (Irsyad Mobarak), Best Boat Operator (NAAM Cruise Sdn Bhd), Best Tour Operator (Gerteknik Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd), Best Taxi Driver (Feisazudin Abdul Hadi) and Best Iconic Event (Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2013).

Ahmad Husni, in his speech, said the awards will motivate tourism operators and entrepreneurs in Langkawi to keep improving.

"The Langkawi Tourism Awards is the best platform for tourism operators to remain competitive and ensure the products they offer are at the highest level.

"It is also a form of recognition and appreciation for tourism operators and entrepreneurs in line with the Langkawi Tourism Blueprint to promote Langkawi as one of the world's best tourism destinations," he said.

The LITA 2014 is the fourth organised by the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada). Also present at the function was Lada chief executive officer Tan Sri Khalid Ramli.
