KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Ryan Moore of the United States successfully defended his CIMB Classic golf championship title after carding a four-round total of 17-under 271 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club here, Sunday.

The 31-year-old Moore emerged as the first player ever to win back-to-back titles in the competition, which enters its fifth edition this year.

"It's been a great week and it seems like I kind of lost for words right now. Coming back to defend the title is something that I've never done before but last year was more stressful," said Moore, who had to come back to the course for a play-off against countryman, Gary Woodland when they shared top spot after posting identical 14-under 274 scores on the final day.

For the feat, Moore received USD1.26 million (about RM4.17 million) and the prestigious trophy from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The CIMB Classic is co-sanctioned by the US PGA Tour and the Asian Tour.

In today's final round, Moore shot three-under in his first-nine after carding four birdies against a lone bogey at the par-four sixth hole and in his second-nine, he added another four birdies and dropped two bogeys for today's round total of five-under 67.

"I was pretty nervous through 15 and 16 (hole). There was a good amount of nerves especially after making a bogey on the 16. Coming down at the 18 with a three shot lead, there's less nerves but still there's plenty of trouble all the way down that hole that you can get in if you hit an errant shot," said Moore about the final round.

Following with three strokes adrift was Moore's compatriot Kevin Na and last year's runner-up, Gary Woodland and also world number four, Spain's Sergio Garcia. They posted an identical four-day totals of 14-under 274.

For their feat, Woodland, Na and Garcia each pocketed US$522,666.67 (about RM1.73 million) while Malaysia's Danny Chia and Nicholas Fung who completed their game in joint 65th with three others pocketed US$14,420 (about RM47,708) each.
